RAM GPS Mount on a '00 ZX9R
I had to finally modernize and get a GPS instead of dragging maps everywhere
I rode. The GPS will be invaluable on long road trips and now I have no excuse
for getting split up and lost ;) I bought a Garmin GPSMAP 60C through Amazon.com
(saved $100 off REI's price) which happened to be a marine GPS, perfect for
the Northwet weather. The next challenge was mounting it on my bike, the 9
has absolutely no free space for a good mounting position. I had a great RAM
mount on the '01 VFR that bolted right to the upper tank bolts...no such luck
on the 9. I checked out GPScity.com for their huge RAM selection and found
a perfect mount example on a Triumph speed triple...the forks !!!! Now why
didn't I think of that... This mount can obviously work on ANY bike, especially
sport bikes with their tight mount space. I purchased the Diamond Plate with
1'' Ball, 3'' Long Arm with Double 1'' Sockets, Strap Rail Base with 1'' Ball
(RAM-B-108U-GP1), and the RAM Mount Plastic GPSMAP 60 and 60C Series Unit
Cradle (RAM-HOL-GA12U). The install was cake..
Here you can see the mount to the left fork tube and where I routed the RAM
mount under the clutch cable to sit right above the triple clamp. The left
side was the least cluttered with cables and made for an easy install. I did
remove the windshield for better access to the fork tube.

Here is the final product from the cockpit. The location does block the lower
end of my speedo, but I can look around the GPS if I need to see it. The beauty
of RAM mounts are all the choices and additional lengths available if I choose
to modify the mount later. I can't wait until my first ride with the GPS now
;)
