Here's the original 9....
The beast is a '98 ZX9R, obviously team green Kwak is fully represented
with the classic lime green color ;) This bike has tons of additional bling
like Dymag's, Muzzy Ti Full Exhaust, and a EuroBike front end. Comparing this
bike to the viffer is like night and day, apples and oranges. The reason for
the change in vehicles was primarily a change in riding habits. I can't find
the time to tour anymore, 3 kids does that to ya. Managing a full family and
work swallows all my time....so a bike more sport oriented was in the cards.
To compare the bikes...the biggest differences are weight, flickability, and
power. The 9 weighs around 100lbs lighter...not too shabby. Flickability is
much easier, turning is telepathic...if you think about turning the bike is
turning. The power difference is clear, 101 HP to 140 HP...there's no replacement
to displacement. The addition of 119 cc's increased the HP by 39 horses...big
difference. The torque has increased by 10 lbs and with the jetting and pipe
additions has increased it even more. The 9 pulls like a Clydesdale above
5K and at 7K awakens in a serious way all the way to red line. The ergos are
"slightly" more crunched than the VFR but it's surprisingly comfortable. The
ZX9R was reviewed as the the "street" liter bike unlike it's competitors...which
are track oriented. Please check out the tech section
for the latest mods/fixes on the 9.
ZX9R version 2.0. Y2K model
This is my black beauty...and she's better than the green monster was.
In Y2K Kwak increased compression which gave a few extra HP's and dropped a HUGE
cam in. This bike shakes the ground next to it when it idles ;) Anyway she's a little
quicker than the '98 version but the rest remains the same. She's pictured in her full
winter attire as my commute increased to 60 miles day and a 700 foot elevation change.
This bike has seen more mud, sand and even snow than the '98 ever did. Be sure to check out the
tech section for Y2K related farkles and improvements to an already perfect motorcycle.
ZX10R Version 1.0, Black Beauty Version 2.0. 2006 model
Presenting Black Beauty V 2.0, and what an upgrade she is !!!! This bike has 170+ HP, weighs less than the 9 at 386 dry, and has FI. No more choke ;) The power is unbelievable. I can't wait to take her out an open 'er up. I barely get out of first on my
commute.
Yamaha FZ1 (Fizzy) Version 1.0, model year 2008
This is my new old geezer bike. Yea old age is catching up so I needed to get an ergo friendly bike. She's got an R1 engine in her, still
sitting at a liter and has a ton of other features as well. I'm very impressed with what Yamaha offers so far with this bike, they thought
about the street ride with a centerstand, great ergos, real long major service intervals, and other little things like collapsible mirrors
to name a few. This bike is just fricken fun...I'm very happy with my purchase decision.
As usual be sure to look at the tech section for upcoming mods.
